issue at the range, notebook was connecting ok but dropping out
ping in 45 to 150 range, ok for 10 or so and drop out a couple and connect back ok
found the wireless nic in the notebook had some wrong settings
power management was set to max battery life switched to highest
transmit power was set to max battery life switched to highest
