notes from sbs2k upgrade

profiles..

had user as local admin, after we brought new server up we had to remove/add all w2k and XP computers in the domain. this left a rogue entry for the user in the local admin group. so when they logged in their romaining profile did not download properly, had to remove the rogue entry and readd the user back in, once this was complete the profile worked properly. also i had a registry key push and it did not work when the rogue entry was in local admin

if you don’t use roaming profiles the following are issues that users will complain about
1. favorites
2. desktop icons
3. any thing in my docs
4. any software like palm desktop that saves settings in the registry
5. any printer settings – this might be a registry hack

email, make sure you have any wierd emial setups for users.. exm bill bob email would be bbob@email.com, but he actually used wbob@email.com on old system

also before turning on email, make sure the postmaster@email.com is setup correctly, ours was postmaster@email.local <- which 2000 setup when i created the .local domain if using popbeamer, make sure you save the email when first turning on incase the system is not correct yet. that way you can rename the saved file to .eml and drop into outlook express for forwarding to correct address
