SBS Essentials, is a one off purchase. If you buy it today and have 4 users, you pay the same price as someone who has 10 users, or someone who has 25 users.<\/p>\n<p>So, for Essentials think \u2018all 25 CALS included\u2019<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">(although on a technical licensing point of law, political correctness\u2019 and outright Microsoft craziness \u2013 there is no such thing as a SBS Essentials CAL)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Essentials OS is licensed for up to 25 users, but those \u2018licenses\u2019 are included in the fee you pay to purchase the software.<\/p>\n<p>I know, i can see some of you at the back sneaking up your hands to ask..<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><span style=\"color: #4bacc6;\">\u201c\u2026i only have X amount of users, can i get a discount\u2026\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>No. Don\u2019t be so cheap\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/robertpearman.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/wlemoticon-smilewithtongueout2.png?w=630\" alt=\"Smile with tongue out\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Because of the unique way Essentials is \u2018licensed\u2019 those invisible CALs only allow you to access the Essentials box itself, so unlike it\u2019s big brother, SBS Standard, if you purchase a standalone member server (not a PAO Server) you must also buy full Windows Server CALs. SBS Standard has a more traditional CAL model, so SBS Standard CALs grant access to ANY member server, regardless of whether it is a PAO or not.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/robertpearman.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/img_0912.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"SBS 2011 CAL\" src=\"http:\/\/robertpearman.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/img_0912_thumb.jpg?w=198&amp;h=244\" alt=\"SBS 2011 CAL\" width=\"198\" height=\"244\" align=\"left\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>An SBS 2011 CAL<\/p>\n<h1>SBS 2011 Premium Add-on (PAO)<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/sbs\/en\/us\/default.aspx\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"sbspao\" src=\"http:\/\/robertpearman.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/sbspao1.png?w=244&amp;h=67\" alt=\"sbspao\" width=\"244\" height=\"67\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With the Premium Add-on (PAO, or Kung PAO as Susan Bradley calls it) Licensing is the same, whether you are adding the PAO to Essentials or Standard (The PAO\u00a0<strong><em>is<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0available to both SBS Standard &amp; Essentials)<\/p>\n<p>When you purchase the PAO, it includes 5 PAO CALS which allows those 5 Clients to access the SQL Services of the PAO Server.
