Most of you are familiar with Sysprep and has use it lot of times. When you are setup a Windows VM you need to install softwares, drivers, maybe some configuration in firewall, enable Remote Desktop , install critical patches and who know&#8217;s what else base on every IT requirements. All these\u00a0takes lot of time every time tha you must insall a new VM.<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t use\u00a0<strong>MDT (Microsoft Deployment Toolkit)\u00a0<\/strong>which is very good tool for those that you don&#8217;t have hear again you can use a sysyprep with a switch \/mode:vm<\/p>\n<p>The command-line option\u00a0<strong>\/mode:vm<\/strong>\u00a0it&#8217;s new command and can use it from Windows 8,Windows Server 2012. The command generalize\u00a0<strong>VHD\u00a0<\/strong>so you can deploy it as\u00a0<strong>VHD\u00a0<\/strong>or\u00a0<strong>VHDX<\/strong>\u00a0in the same\u00a0<strong>HYPERV Host<\/strong>. With simple words\u00a0you can use the same VHD or VHDX File for the first Boot for different VM&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>Today i will explain how can use\u00a0<strong>Sysprep\u00a0<\/strong>with the The command-line option\u00a0<strong>\/mode:vm<\/strong>\u00a0and automate you Job.<\/p>\n<p>So Let&#8217;s start.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Create new VM with\u00a0<strong>Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Install softwares that you want.<\/li>\n<li>Install\u00a0<strong>Windows Updates<\/strong>\u00a0.<\/li>\n<li>Do your configurations base on your requests like enable Remote Desktp Connectio, Configure Windows Firewall or any other configuration.<\/li>\n<li>Run As Administrator the\u00a0<strong>cmd<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Run the following command<br \/>\n<em>sysprep.exe \/oobe \/generalize \/shutdown \/mode:vm<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>\u200b<\/em><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"Image img__fid__1273 img__view_mode__media_original media-image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.askme4tech.com\/sites\/default\/files\/sysprep.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>After finish and shutdown the PC backup the\u00a0<strong>VHD\u00a0<\/strong>file or copy to another location<\/li>\n<li>Create a new\u00a0<strong>VM.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.askme4tech.com\/create-virtual-machine-windows-81-hyper-v\" target=\"_blank\">Create Virtual Machine in Windows 8.1 with HYPER-V<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Attach the\u00a0<strong>VHD\u00a0<\/strong>file in the new\u00a0<strong>VM<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>As you can see it starts again the first startup configuration as new installation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What exactly doing the\u00a0<strong>\/mode:VM?<\/strong>\u00a0Boost the perfomance and time for the virtual machine for the first startup and installation.<\/p>\n<p>The command-line option<strong>\u00a0\/mode:vm<\/strong>\u00a0can use it only in\u00a0<strong>Virtual Machines<\/strong>\u00a0in different technologies of Virtualization like\u00a0<strong>HYPERV<\/strong>,<strong>Xen<\/strong>,<strong>VMWARE<\/strong>.,<strong>ESX.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Can&#8217;t use the VM after sysprep in differnt<strong>\u00a0HYPERV\u00a0<\/strong>Host with different hardware.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>How usefull found this tip?
