{"id":1749,"date":"2016-04-24T21:29:56","date_gmt":"2016-04-25T02:29:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/swildow.darktech.org\/wp\/?p=1749"},"modified":"2016-04-24T21:29:56","modified_gmt":"2016-04-25T02:29:56","slug":"how-to-enable-stereo-mix-in-windows-and-record-audio-from-your-pc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wildow.com\/blog\/?p=1749","title":{"rendered":"How to Enable \u201cStereo Mix\u201d in Windows and Record Audio from Your PC"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a title=\"How to Enable \u201cStereo Mix\u201d in Windows and Record Audio from Your PC\" href=\"http:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/howto\/39532\/how-to-enable-stereo-mix-in-windows-7-to-record-audio\/\" rel=\"bookmark\">How to Enable \u201cStereo Mix\u201d in Windows and Record Audio from Your PC<\/a><\/h2>\n<div class=\"thecontent\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/banner4.png\" alt=\"banner\" width=\"650\" height=\"250\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ever need to record something on your computer exactly as it comes out of your speakers?\u00a0 Enabling \u201cStereo Mix\u201d will let you do exactly that, and here\u2019s how to do it.<\/p>\n<p>Nowadays, most sound cards have the ability to record whatever is being output.\u00a0 The only hang-up is accessing that recording channel, which can be done rather easily.<span id=\"more-39532\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Enable Stereo Mix<\/h3>\n<p>Go down to the audio icon in your system tray, right-click it, and go to \u201cRecording Devices\u201d to open up the proper settings pane.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/stereo_mix_01.png\" alt=\"stereo_mix_01\" width=\"243\" height=\"177\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the pane, right-click on a blank area, and make sure both \u201cView Disabled Devices\u201d and \u201cView Disconnected Devices\u201d options are checked.\u00a0 You should see a \u201cStereo Mix\u201d option appear.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/stereo_mix_02.png\" alt=\"stereo_mix_02\" width=\"442\" height=\"489\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Right-click on \u201cStereo Mix\u201d and click \u201cEnable\u201d to be able to use it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/stereo_mix_03.png\" alt=\"stereo_mix_03\" width=\"442\" height=\"489\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-thetop1\"><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-9173525300015284\" data-ad-slot=\"1477883008\" data-adsbygoogle-status=\"done\"><ins id=\"aswift_0_expand\"><ins id=\"aswift_0_anchor\"><iframe id=\"aswift_0\" name=\"aswift_0\" width=\"650\" height=\"141\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/ins><\/ins><\/ins><\/div>\n<h3>I Still Don\u2019t See It\u2026<\/h3>\n<p>In some cases, your audio chipset drivers aren\u2019t helping your cause.\u00a0 Most likely, this is because they\u2019re outdated.\u00a0 In other instances, however, it\u2019s because the newest Windows drivers for your chipset don\u2019t support this feature.\u00a0 This was the case on my Asus Eee PC (a 1000HE), but I got around the issue by downloading and installing the older Windows XP\/Vista drivers for my audio chipset.\u00a0 As always, before changing your drivers, make sure create a system restore point in case things don\u2019t go as planned.<\/p>\n<h3>How Do I Use This?<\/h3>\n<p>With \u201cStereo Mix\u201d enabled, you can open up your favorite recording program and select that instead of your microphone before you record.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t see the option, or your program doesn\u2019t give you the ability to change the recording device, you can disable or unplug your microphone and make \u201cStereo Mix\u201d the default recording device.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/stereo_mix_04.png\" alt=\"stereo_mix_04\" width=\"442\" height=\"489\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This works well for when you want to capture audio for a screen-sharing session, or record audio from streaming sources\u2013such as live web-casts\u2013that don\u2019t necessarily allow you to download content immediately.\u00a0 In order to do that, you\u2019d open up your audio recording application of choice (like <a href=\"http:\/\/audacity.sourceforge.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Audacity<\/a>), and find the option for microphone input.
