This is useful if you have a limited storage capacity main drive but a separate storage drive and you want your OneDrive content synced to the separate drive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contentStandard\">The scope of this article is for the personal version of OneDrive on Windows\u00a010 and earlier versions. OneDrive defaults to the C:\\User\\&lt;username&gt;\\OneDrive location, however you can change it wherever you want.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contentHeader1\">Move the OneDrive Folder\u00a0in Windows 10,\u00a0Windows 7, and Previous Operating Systems<\/p>\n<p class=\"contentStandard\">To change the OneDrive folder location in Windows 10, Windows\u00a07 and previous versions of Windows, you must unlink OneDrive from your account and then repeat the setup process:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Create a new folder called &#8220;<strong>OneDrive<\/strong>&#8221; in the desired location<\/li>\n<li>Right-click on the <strong>OneDrive <\/strong>icon in the notification area and then select <strong>Settings<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Select &#8220;<strong>Settings<\/strong>&#8221; and then select &#8220;<strong>Unlink OneDrive&#8221;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Follow the setup process again and ensure to select the new drive or location to have OneDrive sync to; you must wait for your files to download again to the new location<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"contentHeader2\">Special Instructions &#8211; Move OneDrive to SD Card<\/p>\n<p>Based on multiple posts in the OneDrive forum and comments on this article, obviously moving to an SD card doesn&#8217;t work. It does seem to work though if you create a\u00a0VHD (virtual hard drive) on the SD card:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/answers.microsoft.com\/en-us\/onedrive\/forum\/odwork-odexternal\/windows-10-on-surface-3move-onedrive-to-sd-card\/46201f65-d2ee-458d-bb8b-5c66c7be1d9a?page=1\">Windows 10 on Surface 3\/Move onedrive to sd card<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/answers.microsoft.com\/en-us\/profile\/6ae9c45e-beda-4b69-9ceb-cb270bbf87dd#user-profile-tab-profile\">BenToan<\/a> for the reference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contentHeader1\">Move the\u00a0OneDrive\u00a0Folder\u00a0in Windows 8.1<\/p>\n<p class=\"contentStandard\">To change the OneDrive folder location in Windows 8.1, you can simply change the location directly through the Properties menu of the OneDrive folder:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Create a new folder called &#8220;<strong>OneDrive<\/strong>&#8221; in the desired location<\/li>\n<li>Open <strong>File Explorer<\/strong>, right-click on the\u00a0<strong>OneDrive<\/strong> folder in the navigation pane (left-hand side), and then select<strong>Properties<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Click the &#8220;<strong>Location<\/strong>&#8221; tab and then select &#8220;<strong>Move<\/strong>&#8220;<\/li>\n<li>Select the location where you want OneDrive to sync to and then click <strong>OK<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"contentStandard\">OneDrive will move all of your OneDrive files from the default location to the new location; you don&#8217;t have to wait for files to download again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contentHeader1\">Post-move Instructions &#8211; Windows User Permissions<\/p>\n<p class=\"contentStandard\">If you move the OneDrive folder to a new location, it inherits the folder permissions of the parent folder (or drive if the OneDrive folder is placed at the root directory).
