Follow these<\/p>\n<p>instructions to download and install SQL Management Studio Express on your Server.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to the Microsoft site at\u00a0http:\/\/www.microsoft.com<\/li>\n<li>Select\u00a0<strong>Downloads &amp; Trials<\/strong>\u00a0on the main Microsoft webpage.<\/li>\n<li>Select the\u00a0<strong>Download Center<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Search for\u00a0<strong>Management Studio<\/strong>\u00a0to find this tool in the list of available downloads. The first result will be for\u00a0<strong>Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select this tool. Read the Overview and Instructions. Note that because you have installed ProSystem\u00a0<em>fx<\/em>\u00a0Practice Management, you will have already installed SQL Server 2005 and.NET Framework 2.0 on the Server.<\/li>\n<li>Download this tool to the\u00a0<strong>Server<\/strong>\u00a0by clicking the\u00a0<strong>SQLServer2005_SSMSE.msi<\/strong>\u00a0Download button.<\/li>\n<li>Once the tool is downloaded you are ready to install. Select\u00a0<strong>Run<\/strong>. A wizard displays, walking you through the installation process. Accept the license agreement and follow the instructions to install\u00a0<strong>SQL Server Management Studio Express<\/strong>\u00a0on your\u00a0<strong>Server<\/strong>. Do not install to a workstation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Back up<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Follow these instructions to make your nightly backups at your firm.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Select\u00a0Microsoft SQL Server 2005\u00a0from the\u00a0Start\/Programs\u00a0menu. Then select\u00a0SQL Server Management Studio Express.<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0Connect to Database\u00a0window displays.<\/li>\n<li>Server name\u00a0displays your\u00a0ProSystem\u00a0<em>fx<\/em>\u00a0Practice Management Server\u00a0name. Accept this default.<\/li>\n<li>Authentication\u00a0displays the default of\u00a0Windows Authentication. Accept the default.<\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0Connect\u00a0to connect to the database.<\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Databases<\/strong>\u00a0in the navigation bar to expand the list of available SQL databases.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click your firm\u2019s ProSystem\u00a0<em>fx<\/em>\u00a0Practice Management SQL database and select\u00a0<strong>Task<\/strong>\u00a0from the right-click menu. Then select\u00a0<strong>Back Up<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Use the\u00a0<strong>Back Up Database<\/strong>\u00a0window to make your backup instructions. Two windows are available from the navigation pane (<strong>General<\/strong>\u00a0and<strong>Options<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li>Use the\u00a0<strong>General<\/strong>\u00a0window to select the Backup type and backup file Destination.<\/li>\n<li>Verify the\u00a0<strong>Database<\/strong>\u00a0name on the\u00a0<strong>General<\/strong>\u00a0window. Notice that the ProSystem\u00a0<em>fx<\/em>\u00a0Practice Management SQL database selected in Step 7 will be selected by default.<\/li>\n<li>Use the\u00a0<strong>Description<\/strong>\u00a0box on the\u00a0<strong>General<\/strong>\u00a0window to enter a description of the backup.<\/li>\n<li>Specify when the\u00a0<strong>Backup set will expire<\/strong>. Notice that the default value of\u00a0<strong>0<\/strong>\u00a0means that the backup will never expire.<\/li>\n<li>Select the\u00a0<strong>Options<\/strong>\u00a0window to set Overwrite and Reliability options. Make sure you select to\u00a0<strong>Overwrite all existing backup sets<\/strong>\u00a0so that your backups will overwrite and not append. You may also want to select to verify the backup when it is finished to make sure your backup will be available should you need to restore it.<\/li>\n<li>Click the\u00a0<strong>Help<\/strong>\u00a0icon at the top of the window for online Help and more information on backing up and restoring databases. A\u00a0<strong>See Also<\/strong>\u00a0list of<strong>Tasks<\/strong>\u00a0is available in Help with detailed \u201cHow To\u201d instructions on creating a Full Database Backup and restoring a Database Backup.<\/li>\n<li>If you want to back up manually, click\u00a0<strong>OK<\/strong>\u00a0to make the backup. To automate the backup, continue with the instructions for\u00a0<strong>Automatic Backup<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>A message displays when the backup is successfully completed and a log displays backup task information.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Automatic Backup<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Follow Steps 1-15 above to build the backup instructions.<\/li>\n<li>Save your backup instructions to a Script so that you can select the script to run the backup in the future by clicking the drop-down\u00a0<strong>Script<\/strong>\u00a0arrow at the top of the window and selecting\u00a0<strong>Script Action to File<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>If you have not already done so, create a special SQL Backup folder on the Server. You can use the\u00a0<strong>Create New Folder<\/strong>\u00a0icon on the\u00a0<strong>Save As<\/strong>window. Browse to the location on your Server and enter the folder name (for example,\u00a0<strong>PMBackup<\/strong>). Make sure that your folder (path) name does not contain any spaces.<\/li>\n<li>Enter the name of your backup script (for example,\u00a0<strong>SQLBackup)<\/strong>\u00a0and click\u00a0<strong>Save<\/strong>. Your script will be saved with a .SQL file extension.<\/li>\n<li>Close SQL Management Studio Express.<\/li>\n<li>Use Notepad or the editor of your choice to create a batch file using the script file you created.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In the batch file, enter the following command:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>SQLCMD.EXE \u2013S<\/strong>\u00a0<em>YourServer\\Instance<\/em>\u00a0<strong>\u2013i<\/strong>\u00a0<em>path\\script.sql<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Where:<\/p>\n<p><em>YourServer\\Instance<\/em>\u00a0is your\u00a0<strong>Server name\\Instance<\/strong>\u00a0(for example,\u00a0<strong>Server\\PracticeMgmt<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p>and<\/p>\n<p><em>path\\script.sql<\/em>\u00a0is the path and name of the script created in Step 4 (for example,<\/p>\n<p><strong>c:\\PMBackup\\SQLBackup.sql<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>Note<\/strong>:<em>The command is case sensitive and the \u201c\u2013S\u201d must be upper case while the \u201c-i\u201d is<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>lowercase.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Save your batch file with a\u00a0<strong>.BAT<\/strong>\u00a0file extension. You may want to store it in the same SQL backup directory as the Script file created in Step 3 above.<\/li>\n<li>On the Server, from the\u00a0<strong>Start<\/strong>\u00a0menu, open\u00a0<strong>Control Panel<\/strong>\u00a0and select\u00a0<strong>Scheduled Tasks<\/strong>. This opens the Windows Task Scheduler. Make sure you are scheduling the backup on the Server and not a workstation as the backup will not run properly from a workstation.<\/li>\n<li>Select to\u00a0<strong>Add Scheduled Task<\/strong>. Follow the directions in the Wizard to add the backup as a scheduled task on the Server. Click\u00a0<strong>Next<\/strong>\u00a0to continue.<\/li>\n<li>Browse to the\u00a0<strong>.BAT<\/strong>\u00a0file you created for the Script and select it as the program to run.<\/li>\n<li>Enter a name for the task and select how often to perform this task (Daily, Weekly, etc.) and click\u00a0<strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select the day and time when you want this task to start and click\u00a0<strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Enter the name and password of a user on the system. The task will run as if started by the user\/password you enter here. You must enter this information for the task. The backup will not run as scheduled if the password is not entered. Then click\u00a0<strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Finish<\/strong>\u00a0to complete the Wizard.<\/li>\n<li>Your backup will be made in the Destination folder you specified in\u00a0<strong>Step 9 (Back Up<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li>Verify the backup and make sure it is running properly.
