When we were still using redhat 9, I made it a habit to uninstall cups
\nand then install LPRng — heck, I’ve started doing that on rhel3, using
\nthe LPRng rpm packages from the redhat 9 install media!<\/p>\n
A more modest solution is to enhance your startshp command to do a
\npipeline inside the parentheses — instead of (lpr -Pmyprinter ) do
\n(\/usr\/bin\/addff | lpr -Pmyprinter) where your shell script
\n\/usr\/bin\/addff is
\n#!\/bin\/bash
\n# copy standard in to standard out, then emit a formfeed character.
\n\/bin\/cat
\n\/bin\/echo -en ‘\\f’<\/p>\n

f the INSTALL has already been completed, you can use the GNOME front
\nend to SWITCH PRINTING SYSTEMS.<\/p>\n
Click on START \/ SYSTEM SETTINGS \/ MORE SYSTEM SETTINGS and then
\nPRINTER SWITCHING TOOL.<\/p>\n
This will automatically swap CUPS for LPR, and move all the necessary
\nLINUX files to their new locations.<\/p>\n
RAW printing should then be FINE, and change 3rd item in your STARTPTR
\nto 1.<\/p>\n
