From your description, I understand that you are running SBS 2K3 server,
\nall client workstations are running Windows XP SP2. You want to disable
\nWindows Firewall on all client workstations, if I have misunderstood your
\nconcern, please let me know.<\/p>\n
To do so, please see my steps below:<\/p>\n
Before the operation, you need to download the following hotfixes first.<\/p>\n
After you install the Windows XP SP2 in your SBS 2k3 network, you may need
\nto install the Update for SBS 2k3 server first, please refer to the
\nfollowing article.<\/p>\n
872769 You cannot configure Windows Firewall settings or Security Center
\nhttp:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/?id=872769<\/p>\n
If you want to modify the Group Policy setting that is configured when you
\ninstalled the Windows Small Business Server 2003 Update for Windows XP SP2,
\ninstall the hotfix that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge
\nBase article:<\/p>\n
842933 “The following entry in the [strings] section is too long and has
\nbeen truncated” error message when you edit or view Group Policy in Windows
\nServer 2003, in Windows XP, or in Windows 2000
\nhttp:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/default.aspx?kbid=842933<\/p>\n
Install both the Windows Small Business Server 2003 Update for Windows XP
\nSP2 (872769) and the hotfix that is described in the article 842933 only if
\nyou want to modify the Group Policy setting that is configured when you
\ninstalled the Windows Small Business Server 2003 Update for Windows XP SP2.<\/p>\n
After installing the above 2 hotfixes, please use the following steps to
\nedit the GPO<\/p>\n
a) On the server, go to Start -> Administrative Tools -> Group Policy
\nManagement\\Forest\\Domain\\Yourserver(local) .<\/p>\n
b) Right click the Small Business Server Windows Firewall and click Edit<\/p>\n
c) Go to Computer Configuration\\Administrative templates\\Network\\Network
\nConnections\\Windows Firewall\\Domain Profile.<\/p>\n
d) On the right pane, change all the settings to “Not Configured”. Go to
\n“Standard Profile” and also make sure all settings are set as “Not
\nConfigured”.<\/p>\n
e) Run “gpupdate \/force” on all your XP2 client workstations to get the
\npolicy changes applied to them.<\/p>\n
f) Ask your clients to test again.<\/p>\n
