You need to change the LAN Manager<br \/>\nAuthentication level.<\/p>\n<p>The KB article associated with this is<br \/>\nhttp:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/default.aspx?kbid=823659<\/p>\n<p>Assuming a standalone machine rather than a DC, do the<br \/>\nfollowing:<\/p>\n<p>Start | Programs | Administrative Tools | Local Security<br \/>\nPolicy<\/p>\n<p>Computer Configuration | Windows Settings | Security<br \/>\nSettings | Local<br \/>\nPolicies | Security Options<\/p>\n<p>The setting &#8220;Network Security: LAN Manager authentication<br \/>\nlevel&#8221; is the one<br \/>\nto note here.  On Windows Server 2003, the default<br \/>\nis &#8220;Sent NTLM response<br \/>\nonly&#8221; and your DOS client doesn&#8217;t understand that.<\/p>\n<p>The default under Windows XP is &#8220;Send LM and NTLM<br \/>\nresponses&#8221;.
