System Management Homepage (SMH) allows users to effectively manage their servers. The System Management Homepage is a web-based tool which simplifies the management of individual HP Servers. In this article, we will discuss how to Install and configure System Management Homepage on your HP Server.

Before I go ahead and start the System Management Homepage Installation, we will need to discuss about the various components of SMH which needs to be installed on your Server. For SMH to work properly on your server, you will need HP Insight Management Agents (Called as HP agents), you also need to install SNMP on your server Operating System. SNMP protocol must be installed, enabled and configured so that HP Management Agents can communicate to the HP SMH application.

HP SMH is a framework or a dashboard where it can show the information provided by the HP Insight management Agents (Or HP Agents). HP agents basically collects all the hardware and software information from your Server. Using the SNMP protocol, HP Agents will send all the collected data to the SMHapplication installed on your Server. SMH receives all the data provided by the agents and shows it in the SMH window.

HP SMH and HP HP Insight Management Agents uses SNMP protocol for communication. SNMP is part of Windows Operating system and it needs to be installed separately. We can install SNMP in Windows 2003 from Add/Remove programs applet and for Windows 2008, we can use Programs and Features applet in Windows control panel.

In short, you need all three components (SMH, SNMP and Agents) for the SMH to work. If any one of the components is missing, you will be presented with a blank SMH window. When all three components are installed and configured, you can access HP System Management Homepage of the server using a web-browser at https://127.0.0.1:2381 or https://localhost:2381

Let us check the steps we need to follow to install and configure System Management Homepage on your HP Server.

Steps to Follow:

1. Download HP System Management Homepage and Insight Management Agents from HP.com.
2. Install HP System Management Homepage on your HP Server.
3. Check whether SNMP service is installed in Windows 2003, 2008 or 2011 Operating System.
4. Install HP Insight Management Agents in Windows Operating System.
5. Configure SNMP Service in Windows Operating System.

Download HP SMH and Agents from HP.com:

HP System Management Homepage and HP Insight Management Agents are available as a downloadable files from HP driver download page of your Server. You can find these two files under the Software – System Management section in the driver download page.

Please follow below said steps to download both SMH and Agents.

1. Open www.hp.com, and click on Support & Drivers link.
2.
