{"id":1470,"date":"2015-02-09T22:04:05","date_gmt":"2015-02-10T03:04:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/swildow.darktech.org\/wp\/?p=1470"},"modified":"2015-02-09T22:04:05","modified_gmt":"2015-02-10T03:04:05","slug":"setting-up-scan-to-folder-savin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.wildow.com\/blog\/?p=1470","title":{"rendered":"Setting Up Scan-To-Folder (Savin)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 class=\"page-title\"><a href=\"http:\/\/pixelcreek.topicboard.net\/t3-setting-up-scan-to-folder-savin\">Setting Up Scan-To-Folder (Savin)<\/a><\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pixelcreek.topicboard.net\/t3-setting-up-scan-to-folder-savin\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/pixelcreek.topicboard.net\/t3-setting-up-scan-to-folder-savin<\/a><\/p>\n<div id=\"p3\" class=\"post row2 post--3\">\n<div class=\"inner\">\n<div class=\"postbody\">\n<h2 class=\"topic-title\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/illiweb.com\/fa\/empty.gif\" alt=\"\" \/><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/pixelcreek.topicboard.net\/t3-setting-up-scan-to-folder-savin#3\">Setting Up Scan-To-Folder (Savin)<\/a><\/h2>\n<p class=\"author\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"sprite-icon_post_target\" title=\"Post\" src=\"http:\/\/illiweb.com\/fa\/empty.gif\" alt=\"Post\" \/>\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/pixelcreek.topicboard.net\/u1\">Admin<\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>on Mon Aug 25, 2008 7:29 pm<\/p>\n<div class=\"content clearfix\">\n<div>There are 2 different pieces to setup, the source and the destination.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll start at the destination..<\/p>\n<p>First we must either create a folder for the scans to go to or identify the folder that already exists that the customer would like their scans to go to.<\/p>\n<p>If you are creating one..<br \/>\nFrom the desktop, goto &#8220;My Computer&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Double click on the<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"vglnk\" title=\"Link added by VigLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.neweggbusiness.com\/Product\/Product.aspx?Item=9SIV06928T3881&amp;nm_mc=afc-cjb2b&amp;cm_mmc=afc-cjb2b-_-Storage+Devices+(Tape+-+ZIP)-_-Quantum+Corporation-_-9SIV06928T3881\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">C:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>drive<\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>(they may ask for the folder to be put on a drive with another letter specified, which is fine)<\/p>\n<p>Then Go to &#8220;File&#8221; in the upper left corner of the window and choose &#8220;new&#8221;, then &#8220;Folder&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Name your folder something relevant and hit Enter<\/p>\n<p>To share the folder:<\/p>\n<p>Once the folder is created, right-click on the folder and choose properties<\/p>\n<p>There should be a sharing tab along the top, click on it<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the OS and how they have it configured, this next part may vary slightly<\/p>\n<p>There will be a check box or circular radio button that will enable sharing on this folder, check it.<\/p>\n<p>If there is a &#8220;Permissions&#8221; Button:<br \/>\nclick it<br \/>\nClick &#8220;Add&#8221; In the box that appears next type &#8220;everyone&#8221; and click &#8220;Ok&#8221;<br \/>\nThis will make the folder accessible to everyone on the network (most importantly the MFD)<br \/>\nYou will see &#8220;Everyone&#8221; listed in Groups\/User names section of your Share Properties with optional check boxes below. Make sure that in the check boxes below that there is a check in the Allow section under Full Control. Then click Ok.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p>Now we&#8217;ll need to locate the UNC Path for the shared folder.<\/p>\n<p>(From the desktop) right-click on the My Computer icon and go to Properties<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the Operating System the next step may vary, but the idea is the same..<br \/>\nThere should be a tab that says &#8220;Computer Name&#8221; click on it<\/p>\n<p>This will give you the computer name which is the beginning of our UNC path. In this example our computer name is &#8220;hobbes&#8221;. You may also see it listed as:<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"vglnk\" href=\"http:\/\/hobbes.pixelcreek.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">hobbes.pixelcreek.com<\/a><br \/>\nhobbes.pixelcreek.local<\/p>\n<p>However it is listed all we need is the part upto the first period, so just hobbes.<\/p>\n<p>Now to find your UNC path<\/p>\n<p>Click on &#8220;Start&#8221; then &#8220;Run&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Type: \\\\computername or in our example \\\\hobbes and Click Ok<\/p>\n<p>This should open a window showing all of the shared folders and devices from that computer. At this point you should be able to see the folder that you shared out. Double click on it and your<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"vglnk\" title=\"Link added by VigLink\" href=\"http:\/\/search.barnesandnoble.com\/Graphical-user-interface-elements\/Source-Wikipedia\/e\/9781230811574\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Address<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>bar<\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>should read something like the following:<\/p>\n<p>\\\\hobbes\\scans<\/p>\n<p>This is the UNC path that you will have to put into the MFD&#8217;s<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>addressbook.<\/p>\n<p>Always check to see if the user is running a Firewall program such as: Norton Internet Securities,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"vglnk\" title=\"Link added by VigLink\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sears.com\/shc\/s\/p_10153_12605_SPM6863188804\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">McAfee<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Internet<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Suite<\/a>, or<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>ZoneAlarm. If they are, the customer will need to program the application to allow traffic from your MFD&#8217;s IP Address. If they don&#8217;t know how, simply disable it by opening the application and turning it off for the time being.
